History lesson

A friend of mine, Annie Ryan sent me this interesting article. (Thanks Annie,)- I thought I'd share it with all of you.

                                                                  1911  FORD MODEL T

                                             This will boggle your mind,-I know it did mine!

                                 The year is 1911---100 years ago. what a difference a century makes!
                                               Here are some statistics for the year 1911;

The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.
Only 14 percent of homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The  maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!
The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.
The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at home.
Ninety percent of all doctors had no college education! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and government as "substandard"
Sugar cost four cents a pound, eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
The five leading causes of death were;
1. Pneumonia
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke
The American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas Nevada, was only 30!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was neither a Mother's Day, nor a Father's day.
Two out of every ten adults couldn't read or write and only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from High School
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local drugstore.
Back then, pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels and is, in fact, the perfect guardian of health!"
Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.
There were about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S.A. !
I am now going to forward this to someone else without typing it myself,
From there, it will be sent to others all over the world all in a matter of seconds!
Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.

 Now aren't you glad you know all this? ---See? Lisa's blog is not just  about photography, headshots or even fashion. I mix it up a bit.  You never know WHAT  you'll find when you visit.  So, my friends, come back soon!

Hi guys, I am really looking forward to the Sample Sale that Lucian Matis is having on Friday, August 19th , at 300 Campbell Ave -ste 201 (buzz 201)
Maybe I will see you there?

Lucian is an exraordinary talent. This Romanian-born (drop-dead gorgeous) fashion designer moved to Canada in 1999. He graduated from Ryerson University in 2003, but not before winning many fashion awards , among them, the Alfred Sung award for great design talent.
Lucian's first professional collection was presented at L'Oreal Fashion Week in March 2007. Accolades and praise followed quickly, including a special guest appearance on Canada's Next Top Model His collection was then featured in a group show during the Festival of Fashion and Design --in Dundas Square! Following this, Lucian was invited to participate in the 1st season of Project Runway Canada. In addition, Lucian was featured in an in-depth profile on Fashion Television, in the fall of 2007. Since then, Lucian's fashions have been featured in magazines such as Flare, Lush, Elle Canada, Tribute (France).
I predict well-deserved international success for this young designer and am excited at the prospect of wearing his creations.

Really Different Ad Campaign.

Imagine this; a man and a woman approach the only available parking spot in a mall, in their respective cars. And......you'll NEVER guess! The chivalrous man gives way to the woman and encourages HER to take the spot. She ends up inviting him to dinner and to meet her family! Lest you think me crazy, let me explain;
There is an advertising campaign sweeping through Canada's largest cities, encouraging people to be good, do good and encourage goodness everywhere. This particular ad campaign isn't out to sell people anything. How refreshing! The idea behind the "social movement" is to get people to donate a little generosity. "What we're trying to do is encourage a change in behaviour.." says Mark Serman who created the campaign along with Toronto based advertising agency Zulu Alpha Kilo.
Across the country, about 350 media entities such as magazines, newspapers, radio stations, T.V. networks and websites are participating in the campaign. Even Canadian actor Jason Priestley donated time to do radio spots for the campaign.
The intent is just to use our collective ability to do something different, do something philanthropic " Zak Mroueh said. "Each of us , and in each of our companies, we can kind of redeploy some of our commercial energy into a socially responsible direction We can't rely on government to change things, so it's incumbent on each of us as individuals to try to do something"

Hear ye.....hear ye!!!
